WASHINGTON, DC, May 16, 2013 – Unissant Inc announced today that it demonstrated the power of transparency through data standards to congressional leaders and staff at “Data Demo Day”, an educational event co-sponsored by the Data Transparency Coalition and the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA), the chairman of the committee, and with Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) a co-sponsor of the Data Accountability and Transparency Act, spoke at the event, which was held in the atrium of the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill.

The Unissant team used XBRL, the first open data standard adopted by the federal government and through a cooperative effort between public and private sectors, to demonstrate how XBRL standardized business reporting and SEC compliance, and is now used by every public company in the nation to tag financial statements and make them machine-readable the moment they are filed with the SEC and published on the SEC’s web site.

Using familiar and common desktop software such as Microsoft Excel, Unissant demonstrated how standards enable easier access, analysis, and visualization of government data.

Unissant was among leading technology firms known to provide data solutions to the Federal government who were invited to give demonstrations, along with Microsoft, Google, IBM, Oracle, Informatica, Accenture, SAS, Tableau, and others.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) and Oversight committee ranking member Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) also spoke at the event, expressing support for government adoption of data standards and analytics for increased government transparency as a bipartisan movement.
